I feel like you just wrote about my inner thoughts and feelings.

But what do we focus on if it’s not ego candy? And how can we feel fulfilled about it?

I'm in the process of figuring this out myself! But, to extend the analogy, I think it's something along the lines of letting go of the sugar addiction and finding something that's more nourishing and "healthy". That feels good in the long term, not just in the moment. For me, that's about impact and legacy. What comes up for you?

Honestly I have no idea yet, I think I’m way further behind you in the thought process/journey. I just know that my fulfilment currently comes from the latest work related achievement and if for some reason that achievement doesn’t happen, I feel unfulfilled and like a failure. Maybe a slightly different situation to yours, but now that I’m a mother I wonder if I shouldn’t be focusing so much on work achievements anyway and that maybe there should be more to making me feel fulfilled.

You have put words to something so many of us struggle against - outdated ideals and definitions. They are all someone else's and are so very hard to release. Harder still is creating a new definition under the pressure of culture, society, family, etc. Love how you are stepping out into the light in this season of your life. Thanks for another great read.

It's still a work in progress to release these patterns, but I think noticing that they exist is a good first step towards creating new ones. Thank you for cheering me on along the way!
